Alma Ruth McGowan

Alma Ruth "Mama Ruth" McGowan of Old Stage Rd., Town of Ulster died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Golden Hill Health Care Facility. She was 92. She was born in Union, SC, a daughter of the late James Thomas and Thaddie Horne Morris. Ruth moved to New York in 1960. She worked at Ferroxcube and later as the head of housekeeping for Ramada Inn, Kingston for 15 years. Beloved wife of the late Clifton L. "Tip" McGowan who died August 28, 1987; loving mother of Pat Escoe and her husband John of Belton, SC, Judy Aidala of Kingston and the late Billy Morris who died in 2008; sister of Lib Smith and her husband Al of Union, SC and the late Annie Bradley, Clarence and Virgil Morris; grandmother of Ken Escoe, Kathy Escoe Sequerth, Bill Morris Jr., James Morris, Michael and Lindsay Aidala; great grandmother of Austin, Ian, Anna Kathryn and Tristin Escoe, Jeff, Jennifer and Daniel Morris and Jack Sequerth. Many nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be conducted in Union, SC at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc.
