Barney J. Millens of Lounsbury Place, Kingston died peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 1, 2012. He was 73. A native and lifelong Kingston resident, he was a son of the late Samuel and Jean Furmansky Millens. A Kingston High School graduate, class of '56, Barney graduated Syracuse University, class of '60. A veteran of the US Army, Barney then served in the Army Reserves. Barney was the president of B. Millens & Son (founded in 1888 in Kingston) and Charles Effron & Son (since 1972) of Poughkeepsie. Both companies operate in the scrap metal and iron businesses. He was a lifelong member of Congregation Agudas Achim. Surviving are his wife, Joan Mautner Millens, his son Samuel Millens and his fianc Megan Donnelly of Kingston. His daughter, Jennifer Millens died in 1997. Brother in law of Jack Mautner and his wife Cindy, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted by Rabbi Yitzchok Hecht at 12:00. Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery. A period of mourning (Shiva) will be observed at the Millens residence on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:00 9:00 PM with memorial services at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Foundation, 34 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401 or Chabad Lubavitch of Ulster County, 19 Janet St., Kingston, NY 12401.
