Beckie Ungar of Van Buskirk Road died Monday, January 22, 2007 at home with her family. She was 94.
She was born in Monastir, Yugoslavia on January 1, 1913, a daughter of the late Abraham and Sol Yousha Farage. Mrs. Ungar arrived in this country as an infant with her parents in 1913. They settled in New York City.
For many years Mrs. Ungar worked in the garment industry as a seamstress a factory owner and in her later years continued working as a custom tailor and dressmaker working out of her home. Mrs. Ungar was a lover of life, music and people and has been a deep source of joy and inspiration to her family and a wide circle of people who knew and loved her.
Her husband, Herman William Ungar, a grocer in the Bronx and a veteran of WWII, died June 6, 1976.
In 1986 Mrs. Ungar moved to this area. She lived in Kingston and Woodstock prior to moving to Saugerties with her son and daughter in law, Jay Ungar & Molly Mason
Surviving is her son, Jay Ungar and his wife Molly Mason of Saugerties, her granddaughter and Ruth Merenda and Ruth's husband Michael; nieces and nephews Arthur and Joanne Debowy, Ted and Marge Debowy, Stephan Farage, Judy Freedman and her husband Larry Golub, Janet Freedman and Drew Stuckey; two sisters, Sarah Freedman, her husband Ray of the Bronx and Dora Debowy of Stony Brook, NY. Three brothers, Max, Morris and David Farage died previously.
There will be a Memorial Gathering of family and friends at the Ashokan Field Campus in Olivebridge, NY on Saturday from 12:00 – 4:00 PM.

Take Kingston Exit 19 and follow the sign to Route 28 West / Pine Hill (quick right after the toll).
Continue on Route 28 West for 11.5 miles to the hamlet of Shokan.
Turn left at Winchell's Pizza (red building on left) onto Reservior Road.
Cross the Ashokan Reservior Bridge and continue to the stop sign.
Turn left at the stop sign onto Monument Road.
Bear right at the fork onto 28A
Take the next left onto Beaverkill Road (at the DEP police substation)
Continue for one mile and turn right at the Ashokan Field Campus sign on your right.
