Betty Elizabeth Spada

Betty Elizabeth Spada, of Crane Street, Kingston died Friday, January 7, 2005 at Kingston Hospital. She was 88. Betty was born in Kingston on April 23, 1916, a daughter of the late Dominick and Rose Weider Yonta. As a young woman she worked in the local garment industry. On January 5, 1941 she married Michael G. Spada. For many years she co-owned and operated with her husband the former Walnut Grove, Kingston and the Imperial Billiard Lounge, Kingston. A beautician, Betty worked with Josephine Marabell and then out of her home on Crane Street. A parishioner of St. Mary's Church, Betty was a member of the Ladies Society of Santa Maria, Kingston Point. Her husband died October 31, 1997. Her brother, Cpl. Vincent A. Yonta was killed in action in Korea June 2, 1953; her sister Viola Davide died in 1997. Surviving are her son Michael A. Spada Jr. of Kingston; her daughter Donna Marie Spada of Kingston; her sisters Josephine Primo and Jeanette Provenzano; her brothers Michael, Thomas, Donald and Robert Yonta; her grandchildren Diana Spada, Yvonne Herrington and her husband Scott, Lisa Bruck and her husband, the late John; Lori Redding and her husband Robert; and Michael G. Spada and his wife Angela; great grandmother of Taylor John Bruck, Chelsea Elizabeth Herrington, Alexandria Theresa Spada, Charles Lee Herrington and Marley Grace Spada. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank Spada, Tommy Spada and his wife Marge, Charlie Spada and his wife Jenny, Albert Spada and his wife Mary and Mary DuBois and many nieces and nephews. Reposing at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church at 12:00, Fr. Frank J. Damis will officiate. Entombment will be in Wiltwyck Community Mausoleum.
