Carmella Esposito, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and neighbor died peacefully of natural causes on March 16, 2012 in Concord, Massachusetts. She was 90. Until 2009 Mrs. Esposito was a long time resident of Ponckhockie in Kingston. Born in Calanna, Reggio Calabria, Italy in 1921 she came to America in 1929, settling in Watertown, NY with her parents, Sebastiano and Pasqualina Calabrese Spano and younger brothers Domenico and Antonio. Three other brothers, Joseph, Carmelo and Paul, were born in Watertown. In June 1946 Mrs. Esposito married Edward J. Esposito of Kingston where they raised their family. Edward a restaurateur in Kingston died in 1982. Mrs. Esposito was an active volunteer for over 25 years with the Ulster County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) helping with administration of the meals on wheels program and participating in the Intergenerational Pen Pal program. She loved music, sharing that love with family and friends and by visiting area nursing homes as a member of the Kingston Community Singers. Mrs. Esposito always placed family first. She leaves three sons and daughters-in-law: Joseph and Mary Lou of Bedford, MA, James and Barbara of Charlotte, NC and Edward and Carol of Nazareth, PA. plus six adored grandchildren: Michael, Katie, Dana, Jamie, Zachary, and Mikaela, all targets of her limitless affection and her delicious cooking. She is also survived by her brother Paul Spano and his wife Hazel of Kingston, her devoted niece Josephine Maccaline and her husband Sam of Kingston, and by many nieces and nephews with fond memories of their Aunt Carmella. Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral procession will form on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
