Christiane Y. Murphy

d. November 28, 2014

Christiane Yeu Murphy, 82, of Kingston, died Friday, November 28, 2014 at her home. Born in Peking, China, she was a daughter of the late Hugues & Marcelle Dufourcq Yeu. As well as having been a cosmopolitan and charismatic woman, Christiane lived an exotic life which took her from China to France, Indochina, Spain, and eventually to the United States. As a child, at the beginning of WWII, she was interned in a Japanese concentration camp with her family in Indochina. When she was liberated, she spent time in Spain and France, where she met her husband, and relocated to the United States. Her fluency in languages led to a long career as a translator for an international bank in New York City. She moved to Kingston after she retired to be closer to her family. Christiane is survived by her three daughters, Michele DelPriore and her husband Michael of Kingston, Jolle Murphy and her husband Patrick Blackwell of South Pasadena, CA, and Yannick Murphy and her husband Jeffrey Oney of Vermont; 11 grandchildren, Maxwell, Joshua and Sarah Murphy, Alexander and Daniel DelPriore, Christopher, Emily and Jesse Blackwell, Hank, Louisa and Kit Oney; one sister, Claude Jones and her husband Lindsey, and a daughter-in-law, Jocelyn Murphy. In addition to her parents, Christiane was predeceased by her son, Ray Murphy, who passed in 2007. Services and interment will be privately held.
