Daniel Gikner, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died Dec. 15, 2020, near his Deerfield Beach, Fla., home after a short illness. He was 91.

Mr. Gikner was born on July 16, 1929, in Mount Kisco, N.Y. to Samuel Gikner and Fannie (Kurkhill) Gikner. He was a graduate of Mount Kisco High School and New York University, After stateside service in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War era, Mr. Gikner married Marcia Simon on June 16, 1957, in New York City. They later moved to Woodstock, N.Y, where they resided for more than 40 years. The Gikners raised two daughters, who survive them: Amy Hershfield (Joel) of Simsbury, Ct, and Jan Ferris (John) of Essex Junction, Vt. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Samantha, Sarah, William, Benjamin, and Noah; as well as a passel of loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gikner was predeceased by his wife of 51 years in 2009.

He was an IBM employee in both Kingston and Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for more than 30 years, and was an avid longtime skier. Upon his retirement, he and his wife volunteered at the Angel Food kitchen in Kingston; Mr. Gikner was also a Meals on Wheels driver in Deerfield Beach, his home for the last decade.

A graveside service will be held at Montrepose Cemetery on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 11:00 AM.
