Edith L. Macholdt

Edith L. Van Aken Macholdt, 85, of Kingston, died Wednesday, February 21, 2012 at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home. Born in Queens, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alfred & Ethel Borklund. Edith was a very active community member involved in the Cub Scouts, Republican Club, Marine Corp League and many other organizations. She was the Marbletown Town Clerk and collected taxes for the town of Marbletown and Roundout Valley School District for many years. Known to all as G. G., she was an accomplished seamstress, avid reader, loved to dance and tell jokes. In her retirement she taught adults to read and was part of the grandparents program at the Chamber School. She is survived by her two sons, Albert W. Van Aken and his wife Patricia of Catskill, Richard Van Aken and his wife Nancy of Safety Harbor, FL, her sister, Barbara Munson of St. Petersburgh, FL, and her five grandchildren, Kim, Irene, Margie, Brook and Ian. 13 great grandchildren also survive. Services and interment will be private.
