Elaine Greenspan

April 29, 2022

Elaine Greenspan, 89, of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Kingston, NY, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Delray Medical Center. At the time of her passing, she was living full-time at the Addison Reserve County Club in Delray Beach, FL.

Born October 1, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Harry & Sadie Brown.

Elaine is survived by her daughter, Randie Berman and her husband Larry of Wynnewood, PA, her son, Dr. Gary Koch and his wife, Cindi of Tampa, FL, four grandchildren, Jason Berman and his wife Brittany, Scott Berman and his wife Lucy, Hallie Koch and Jeremy Koch, a niece, Vicky Tarnopol, and two nephews, Charles Langerman and Brad Langerman

In addition to her parents, Elaine was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, Hyman Greenspan and her sister, Ferma Langerman.

Elaine was a single mother for many years in Philadelphia raising her children Randie and Gary. During these years, Elaine, Randie and Gary formed a unique and deep devotion to each other that remained unshakeable for the remainder of her life.

Elaine met Hy in 1967 while vacationing in Puerto Rico. They were married in 1973, and Elaine moved to the Hudson Valley. She first lived with Hy in Poughkeepsie while they were building their dream house on Arnold Drive in Kingston. Kingston became her home for close to fifty years.

Elaine had a special relationship with all of her family. She never missed an important family event, frequently traveling to Philadelphia and Tampa for birthdays, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, and middle school and high school graduations. She also traveled to various cities to help celebrate college and graduate school graduations, and most recently, during the past several months, to enjoy the weddings of her grandsons Jason and Scott. She loved celebrating all of the special moments with her family. Spending time with her grandchildren always brought a smile to her face. She especially looked forward to having her family together for the holidays and was so proud of all of her children’s and grandchildren’s achievements.

In addition to family, Elaine also cherished having a countless number of friends. She maintained lifetime friendships with childhood friends in Philadelphia lasting almost eighty years. Her friends all considered her a “best” friend. No matter where Elaine lived, she brought her strong and deep love of friendship with her. She made an enormous number of friends in Kingston after marrying Hy and relocating there and did the same when she established a winter home in Florida. Elaine was very social and enjoyed entertaining both in Kingston and in Delray Beach. To Elaine, speaking with friends on a daily basis was an incredibly important part of her life.

Elaine had a thriving career in real estate sales and management. In Philadelphia, she was part of the management team at the River Park House, then one of the largest apartment buildings in the city. After moving to the Hudson Valley, she managed Collegeview Tower, a high-rise apartment building in Poughkeepsie near Vassar College. At the same time, she maintained a part-time real estate sales practice in Kingston. Elaine was also an avid investor and had a passion for the stock market.
