Ethel M. Paulus, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 30, 2012 with her daughter beside her. One of five children, she was born on her family's Phoenicia farm on April 24, 1914, a daughter of the late Irving and Addie Snyder Krom Sr. She was married for 43 wonderful years to her beloved husband Frederick P. Paulus who died in 1977. Their son, Charles Paulus, died in 1936, a great granddaughter, Carrie Lynne House, one sister Marion Sahler and brother Irving Krom, Jr. all died previously. Surviving are her daughter, Linda Hatt of Rhinebeck, three granddaughters Wendy Kordzikowski (Frank) of Port Ewen, Diane Wright (Bob) of Hurley, Brenda Baez (Angel) of Kingston; eight great grandchildren Sara Thomas, Rachel Baez, Samantha Wright-Longhi, Ryan, Brandon and Haley Willis, Alan and Joanne Kordzikowski ; two great great grandchildren Paige Leigh Thomas and Anayah Longhi; one sister Beatrice Albright and one brother Edwin Krom. Ethel was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the Women's Guild. She lived by her faith in God and hard work and overcame obstacles that would have proved too difficult for most. A born-again Christian, Ethel was always busy helping others throughout her life. Over the years she enjoyed being a caregiver to many welfare and foster children and those whose parents were in the workforce. More than one hundred children passed through her loving home and received the same care that a mother would give. Ethel enjoyed painting, sewing and gardening. She was a wonderful cook and baker as well. She could do almost anything she set her mind to and was blessed with retaining her full memory right up till she passed at age 98. She touched the lives of everyone she knew and loved. Reposing at the Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Service in celebration of her long life will be conducted on Saturday at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Feed The Children, PO Box 36, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73101-0036.
