Helen T. Stembler

October 30, 1920 — April 22, 2006

Helen T. Stembler of Town Hall Drive, Greenport died Saturday, April 22, 2006. Our mom had been ill for some time and was in the Hospice Program at Columbia Memorial Hospital for three and a half days where she died very peaceably in her sleep. She was 85. She was born October 30, 1920 in Staten Island, NY, a daughter of the late Theodore Berlau and Theres Weinum. For many years, she was a saleslady for J.C. Penny in Staten Island and Middletown, NY. Mom was a very giving and generous woman, with an easy laugh who always saw good in others. She loved the Yankees, Lawrence Welk, figure skating and ball room dancing shows, big band music, cross word puzzles, romance novels, chocolate ice cream, sweets, and going for drives admiring the scenic views. She was married to the late Edward J. Stembler who died January 29, 1973. Her second husband, Fred Lord also died previously. Surviving are two sons, Edward Stembler and his wife Delinda of Tampa, FL; Richard Stembler of Woodstock; a daughter, Charlotte Conner and her husband, Larry of Woodstock; five grandchildren, Edward James Stembler and his wife Yana; Joseph and Jeremey Stembler, Kieth and Brandon Conner and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Conner. A brother, Theodore Berlau and two sisters, Dorothy Graves and Charlotte Berlau died previously. Services were private.
