Jack A. Sender

Jack A. Sender of Lucas Turnpike, High Falls died Thursday, December 25, 2008 at Benedictine Hospital. He was 83. He was born in the Bronx on September 28, 1925, a son of the late Max and Gussie Fox Sender. Mr. Sender enlisted in US Army in 1943. He served in the European Theater of Operations during WW II. Honorably discharged in 1945 with 11 Bronze Stars and Distinguished Unit Badge, he re-enlisted in 1948 in the US Air Force. He was then Honorably discharged as an Aviation Cadet. In 1949 he entered the US Army as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1953. He completed his military service from the US Army Reserves in 1962. Mr. Sender attended Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD while serving in the US Army. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. He received his Law Degree from N.Y.U. He married Gloria Goodman on December 28, 1954. For many years Mr. Sender maintained a private practice civil law firm in Manhattan. He also was an attorney for the US Army Corps of Engineers. He retired from practice in 1987. Formerly of Riverdale, he moved full-time to High Falls in 1993 to fulfill his love of farming and planting a vineyard. One sister, Shirley Postman, died previously. Surviving in addition to his wife of 53 years, Gloria Goodman Sender, are two sons Stuart David Sender and his wife Marianne of South Orange, NJ, Harlan Miles Sender and his wife Caryn of Oradell, NJ; two sisters Sydell Sandy of Chevy Chase, MD and Ruth Lampert of Manhattan, nine grandchildren Rachel, Joshua, Michael, and Benjamin Sender; Danielle, Erica, Samantha, Alex and Max Sender; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted on Sundat at 9:30 a.m. at Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. Rabbi Yitzchok Hecht will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Maspeth, Queens.
