Josefa Nina Lieberman, Ph.D., a retired college professor and certified psychologist in New York, died April 17, 2012 at Ten Broeck Commons. She was 90. A daughter of the late Rabbi Dr. David and Rose Z. Leinwand Margules she was born in Jaroslaw, Poland. Nina grew up in Salzburg, Austria from which she fled to England in 1939 as a result of the Annexation of Austria by Hitler. Her memoirs have been deposited in the historical archives of Jews from Austria. She worked in a social welfare organization in Cambridge during WW II. In 1946 Nina emigrated to the US and resumed her academic studies which led to a doctorate from Columbia University in educational psychology in 1964. She taught at Brooklyn College of CUNY from 1960 to 1983 and retired as professor emeriti of education. Recognized for her work and research with the gifted she was published, authored many journal articles and spoke before professional societies. Nina was a member of the American Psychological Society, the Society for Research in Child Development, and American Education Research Assoc. She was a founding member of the Solomon Schechter High School, Brooklyn. She moved from Brooklyn to Woodstock and was active in the Adult Education Committee at Ahavath Israel, Kingston, the School Committee at Woodstock Jewish Congregation and Senior Citizen Recreation Committee, Woodstock. Beloved wife of 56 years of Meyer Frank Lieberman, loving sister of Gabriele E. Margules of Kingston. Cousins in the USA, Holland, France, Israel and Brasil also survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. Rabbi Jonathan Kligler will officiate. Interment will follow in Wellwood Cemetery, Farmingdale.
