Leonard Zimet, 89, of Ithaca, formerly of Woodstock, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca. Born in Irvington, NJ, he was a son of the late Jacob & Sophie Gross Zimet. Leonard was a WWII veteran having served as a musician in the Army Air Corp. After 10 years as a band director in Virginia, Leonard moved to Kingston where he taught history at the High School for over 25 years. Leonard served Temple Emanuel Religious School as a teacher and director from 1959-1994. A founding member of the Columbia Woodwind Quintet he also had played oboe with the Indianapolis, Norfolk and Hudson Valley Symphonies. Leonard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Benedict Zimet of Ithaca, whom he married September 15, 1950, three children, David Zimet and his wife Melanie of Ithaca, Beth Mark and her husband David of Narberth, PA and Joshua Zimet of Baltimore, MD, one sister, Cynthia Parlo of Jacksonville, FL, six grandchildren, Rachel, Sarah, Debra, Ben, Sam and Hannah. He also had the joy of four great grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Temple Emanuel at 1:00 PM with Rabbi Yael Romer officiating. Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery. The family will sit shiva after the funeral on Thursday at Temple Emanuel from 6-8 PM with a minyan at 7:00 PM. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Temple Emanuel, 243 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401
