Martin "Marty" J. Saban, Sr.

Martin J. "Marty" Saban, Sr. of Edgewood Dr., Saugerties died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Golden Hill Health Care Facility. He was 89. He was born in East Kingston, a son of the late John and Anna Sefcik Saban. Marty served in the US Army during WW II. On September 11, 1949 he married Elizabeth "Betty" Curlin. For 23 years he worked at Star Brick and then for 23 years at N.E. Solite as a heavy equipment operator. He belonged to Local 825, Operating Engineers, NJ. A Life Member of the Joyce-Schirick Post 1386, Marty served as Past Commander. He was in the Red Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. Beloved husband of Betty Saban, loving grandfather of Elizabeth Lydia Rose Falcon; father of Martin J. Saban Jr. and his wife Barbara of Nuremberg, Germany and Suann Saban of Catskill; grandfather of Sevin Schuster and Shane Saban; brother of the late John Saban Jr., Alice Swieca, Julia Weider, Mary Swenson and Paul Saban. Nieces and nephews also survive. Reposing at the Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Sunday from 3:00 7:00 pm. The Joyce-Schirick Post 1386 will conduct a ritual, at Simpson - Gaus, on Sunday at 6:30 pm. The funeral procession will form on Monday at 9:15 am from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church at 10:00 am. Interment, with military honors by the Joyce-Schirick Post 1386 Color Guard, will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
