Mary Littleton, 73, a resident of Hurley for over 40 years, died Monday, August 12, 2013 at her home. Mary Magdalene Shelton was brought to this earth on January 31st, 1940 at 5:30 am to the late Ernest Shelton and late Lucreasy Maddox Shelton. She was born in Star City, Arkansas. She graduated from Lincoln High School, went to college at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff with a Bachelors of Science and received her Master's in Education from the State University of New York at Albany. Mary met her husband, Willie Wade Littleton, III, in college at Pine Bluff and they were married February 14, 1964. They bore three children. Mary was a teacher in the Kingston City School District from 1974- 1996. She received accolades for her spirit and ability to teach youth the skills that they truly need to survive in business. She helped lead the department into the 21st century and taught some of the first computer/ technology courses. Mary was also very active in her community and was a Deacon at Fair Street Church, served on the board at the YMCA and board at the Hurley Recreational Association. After Mary retired, she started her second career: tennis Mary was the Captain of her USTA league for many years and played tennis up until 6 months prior to the loss in her battle with breast cancer. She touched many lives in all realms of her life and inspired many more with her courage, positive spirit, outgoing attitude and approach to life. Mary lived humbly and fully. She will always be remembered by her grace, kindness and bravery. She is survived by her husband, Willie Wade Littleton III, daughter Angela Littleton of Albuquerque, NM, son Aaron Littleton of Albuquerque, NM, grandson Adam Littleton, daughter Andrea Littleton Foster of Mt Vernon, NY, son in law Roddy Foster, grandchildren, Jonathan Foster, Andrew Foster and Alexandra Foster, her siblings Marjorie Harris, Joe Shelton, Shirley Shelton, Wanda Prigg, Paula Watson and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her sister Evelyn Guy and brother Cornelius Shelton. Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave, on Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A candlelight service will be held at 8:15. A Funeral Service will be conducted at the Fair Street Reformed Church on Monday at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Hurley Cemetery.
