Michael Joseph Patrick Murphy of Wall Street, Kingston, NY died Monday, August 30, 2004 at Benedictine Hospital, Kingston. He was 58. Michael was born in Poughkeepsie on May 22, 1946, a son of Helen Ryan Murphy and the late Charles Murphy. He was raised in Pawling and for most of his life has lived in Dutchess County. Michael received his B.A. in English from Marist College and then his M.S.W. from Adelphi School of Social Work. A Social Worker for Taconic Developmental Disabilities Service Organization (Taconic DDSO), he has worked there since the early 1970's. He belonged to the Public Employees Federation S.C.I.U. One sister Eileen Manzi died previously. Surviving in addition to his mother of Charlotte, NC, are his partner Linda Puga; one daughter Anne Katherine Murphy of Brooklyn, one son Jeremy William Murphy of Kingston; one sister Joanne Longo of Charlotte, NC; one brother Charles E. Murphy of Clearwater, Florida; his former wife Mary L. Murphy of East Haddam, Connecticut; Linda Puga's daughter, Simone Puga of Fitchburg, Massachussets; a dear friend Rachel Russell of Middleburg, Connecticut; many nieces, nephews and friends. There will be a family viewing on Thursday from 5:00 - 6:00 PM at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue. A gathering of family and friends will be conducted from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. On Friday at 12:00 PM there will be a memorial service at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Catskills, Sawkill Road, Town of Ulster, Rev. Linda Anderson will officiate.
