Norman J. Caunitz Jr.

Norman J. Caunitz Jr. of Esopus Ave. died Saturday, June 24, 2006 at home. He was 66. He was born July 12, 1939 in Kingston, the son of Mary E. Cericola Caunitz and the late Norman Caunitz. Mr. Caunitz served in the navy from 1959 to 1963. For 22 years, he was employed as a meat cutter for the former Gov. Clinton Market and for 15 years at the Grand Union in Kingston. A parishioner of St. John’s Episcopal Church, he volunteered at St. John’s Angel Food East. He enjoyed bowling and was a professional father and grandfather. Surviving in addition to his mother of Kingston are his wife, Helen LaLima Caunitz whom he married October 25, 1964; three daughters, Christine Stanley of San Diego, CA, Yvonne Caunitz of Kingston, Tara Clark of Stone Ridge and a sister, Dolores “Laurie” Osterhoudt of Saugerties. Five grandchildren, Tyler Walker, Karleigh MacBrien, Brendan Stanley, Aili and Thomas Clark and several nieces and nephews also survive. Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston, on Tuesday from 3 – 5 and 7 – 9 pm. A candle lighting memorial service will be held Tuesday at 8:30 pm. The funeral procession will form on Wednesday at 9:15 am from the funeral home. At 10:00 am, funeral services will be conducted at St. John's Episcopal Church. Rev. Duncan Bruns will officiate. Cremation will be at Wiltwyck Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454 or the Town of Ulster Little League.
