The family will receive friends at the Simpson-Hammerl Funeral Home, 411 Albany Avenue in Kingston NY on Friday, March 4th, 2022 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Church in Glasco on Saturday, March 5th, 2022 at 10:00 AM. There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home before the mass and no processional. Guests are asked to go directly to the church

Inurnment will be privately held at a later date.

Richard A. Ozores, 70, of Kingston, died Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Westchester Medical Center.
Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Angel & Dolores Bisbal Ozores.

Rich had a winning smile that would light up a room whenever he entered it. A smile you received whenever you would cross his path – one that would make you feel like you were the most important person in the world… and to him, in that moment … you were!

As a Certified Master Mechanic and a Service Writer for Toyota and Chevrolet for many, many years, Rich met people from all different walks of life. He remembered them all by name and especially, ironically, by the car they drove. Many of you will know him from those years. In his retirement, Rich worked for over ten years at HealthAlliance Hospital in the Security Department as a Shuttle Driver. He absolutely loved this job! His daily encounters with the staff going to and from the parking lots, gave him the opportunity to create endearing friendships with all who rode the shuttle. They shared bits and pieces of their lives in that short but sweet commute – all while Rich played his favorite music.

Rich cherished the simple things in life… he loved just being home and spending time with his wife Lori and their beloved cat Bella. He was a phenomenal drummer and lover of music – that was his true passion. Some of his favorite times were those spent with his children and grandchildren playing music together at the holidays.

Rich had a deep compassion for others, especially those struggling with any illness, disability or addiction. Through the many years of his illness – he would never speak of himself and would always ask others “how they were feeling” – never complaining or letting others know of his struggles. He was a strong man who beat the medical odds and astounded his transplant surgeons year after year. A recipient of two livers and two kidneys – he was a four time transplant survivor. Thank you to his daughter Lisa, who donated her kidney giving Rich 11 more years of memories. His pride and joy were his daughter Lisa and son Richard, and grandchildren Caleb and Lily. He would beam at just the mention of their names. They will keep his memory alive and allow us all to smile when we think of him – and not shed tears.

Rich was a man of great faith. He had a strong spirituality which was the core to his extraordinary spirit and perseverance. We will draw from that strength as we all go on.

It would be remise to not acknowledge some special people. First and foremost – a special thank you and blessing to those selfless families who made the decision to donate their loved ones organs. You gifted Rich 17 years of life. To Dr. Elizabeth Costley and her team at Bridge Street Medical for their years of love and care; the legions of doctors and nurses at the HealthAlliance Hospital – who were not only his life savers many times over, but true friends to him; the Liver and Kidney Transplant Teams and Surgeons at Westchester Medical Center, and a special angel in his last days, Nursing Supervisor Hylton Clarke. Hylton, your kindness and compassion gave his wife great comfort and she will never forget you. To his local team of doctors, his wonderful boss Martin Duffy, whom he adored at HealthAlliance and his numerous co-workers and friends. God bless his children for being by his side every day, the Petramale Family, and all of the Ozores Family, Friends and Neighbors. Thank you for your kindness, your prayers and your never ending support through the years - and especially now as we learn to move forward without Rich. Please remember his smile and know in your heart – he is smiling back. We will love him and miss him forever, but promise to live by his mantra - “Have an attitude of gratitude”.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lori Petramale-Ozores of Kingston, a son, Richard Ozores and his fiancé, Charly Mallet of upstate New York, a daughter, Lisa Brown and her fiancé, David Butisingh of Newark, NJ, a brother, Roberto Ozores and his wife, Grace of Montreal, Canada. Two grandchildren, Caleb and Lily also survive.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in his honor to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, something Rich was passionate about.
