Richard Pitt Jr. of Lawrenceville St. died Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Kingston Hospital. He was 53. He was born in Spring Valley on June 5, 1951, a son of the late Richard Norman and Joan Kunze Pitt Sr. Mr. Pitt moved to this area as a teenager. He served in the Merchant Marines. For 19 years he has been employed by the Town of New Paltz Highway Department. An avid volunteer firefighter, Mr. Pitt was a former member of the Port Ewen Fire Department and Sawkill Fire Department. A longtime Port Ewen resident, he moved to Kingston 14 years ago. Surviving are his fiancé Kathy McKenzie; one daughter Kelly Jennings of Anaheim, CA; two sons Richard Pitt III of High Falls and Michael Pitt of Ulster Park; two step sons Anthony W. and Michael S. McKenzie, both of Town of Ulster; one brother Paul Pitt of Port Ewen; three sisters Cindy Burgher of Stone Ridge, Beverly Pitt of Rhinebeck and Georgia Cross of Lexington, New York; seven grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Monday 2-4 and 6-9 PM. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:45 from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church at 11:30 AM. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
