Robert J. Stone, a prominent public relations professional, formerly of Kingston, of Irvington, died Wednesday, December 27, 2006 in White Plains following a series of strokes. He was 86. Mr. Stone was born in Kingston on August 23, 1920, Morris and Hattie Mann Stone. He began his career as a newspaper reporter, working for papers in Kingston, Albany, and Trenton. He then went on to a 50-year career in public relations. Mr. Stone has received many honors, including being named a Fellow of the Public Relations Society of American and earning the Dorf Award for mentoring young professionals. Throughout his life Mr. Stone was also a passionate supporter of firefighters. He was a volunteer for the Kingston Cornell Fire Department. He was named an Honorary Battalion Chief of the NYC Fire Department and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the New York City Fire Museum. He volunteered at the Irvington, NY Fire Department and was a senior correspondent for The 1st Responder newspaper. His wife of 50 years, Shirley Siegel Stone died in 2000, and his oldest daughter, Barbara Stone in 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Judith Stone-Goldman and son-in-law, Allan Goldman of Bellevue, Washington; grandsons, Jonathan and Matthew Markowitz; sister, Ruth Lieberman, of Washington; his companion, Jane Yendell of Irvington; and many cousins. The funeral will be Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m., at Weinstein Memorial Chapel in Yonkers. Graveside services will be conducted by Rabbi Yael Romer in Montrepose Cemetery on Tuesday at 1:00. The family will receive guests at Mr. Stone’s residence for shiva on Wednesday, Jan. 3, and Thursday, Jan. 4, from 7 P.M. to 9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to Hearthstone Alzheimer’s Care (Attn: Sharon Johnson; 23 Warren Avenue, Suite 140, Woburn, MA 01801); the New York City Fire Museum (278 Spring Street, New York, NY 10013); or a charity of your choice.
