Sam Finkelstein of West Palm Beach, Florida and Ellenville, NY died Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Hospicare, Itaca, NY. He was 92.
He was born in New York City on October 1, 1914 a son of the late Harry David and Tillie Finkelstein.
He co-owned and operated Finkelstein Bros. Food Market in Ellenville for 50 years. He retired in 1982.
A longtime Ellenville resident, he maintained a residence in Florida since 1991.
Mr. Finkelstein served two terms as Presidnet of the Century Village, East Hampton E Condo Association (from 1995 - 1997.) He served two terms on the Board of Directors for Congregation Ezrath Israel (from 1989 - 1993.)
He was a past Chairman of the Town of Wawarsing Environmental Conservation Commission from 1971 - 1976 and former Board member of the Ulster County Environmental conservation Commission. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Wawarsing Lodge 582 in Ellenville since 1960. During the 1930's Mr. Finkelstein served as Scout Master for Troop 5, Ellenville, Boy Scouts of America.
His wife, Lillian Patoff Finkelstein, whom he married in 1947, died January 15, 2004.
Surviving are one daughter Shelley Ruth Devore of Albuquerque, NM; one son Kenneth David Finkelstein of Ithaca, NY; one brother Saul Finkelstein of Plantation, Florida; three grandchildren Esther Racheal Devore, Emily Helen and Madeline Sarah Finkelstein.
Funeral services at Congregation Ezrath Israel, Ellenville on Thursday at 1:00 PM. Rabbi Moshe Frank will officiate. Interment in Ezrath Israel Cemetery.
