Saul Schechter, 91, passed away unexpectedly on May 25, 2019, at Woodland Pond, New Paltz, N.Y.

Born in Kingston, New York, he was a son of the late Mollie and Jack Schechter. Saul served four years in the US Navy, much of it aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Leyte. He returned to run ‘Schechter’s Market’, a Kingston landmark, for over 40 years. He enjoyed tennis, reading, pinochle and following his New York sports teams. Saul’s big smile embodied his famously kind and generous nature. Universally adored by family, friends and acquaintances, his favorite times were spent with those he loved. He was an active member of the Congregation Agudas Achim.

Saul was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 68 years, Frances. He is survived by his daughters, Jackie Schechter, Marlene Schechter (Jack Behan); and his grandchildren, Rebecca Adams, Zachary Connors (Yanizy Connors).

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 27, 2019, at 11 a.m., at Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home; 411 Albany Avenue, with Rabbi Yitzchok Hecht, from Congregation Agudas Achim, officiating.

Interment will follow in Montrepose Cemetery
