Sylvia Leventhal of Pearl Street, Kingston, died at her home Wednesday, March 17, 2010. She was 92 years old. She was born in Brooklyn, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Esther Cohen Leventhal. Sylvia married Reuben Leventhal of Kingston at age 19. Sylvia raised their three children while her husband and father-in-law, Hyman, ran the Leventhal Furs, founded in 1900, a landmark building on Wall Street. In 1957, Leventhal Furs was changed to Leventhal Furs and Fashions, bringing fine casual and dress wear to Kingston. She took over the store entirely when her husband died in 1968. In 1992, Sylvia retired and sold her building. She was long active with the Uptown Business Association. A member of Temple Emanuel, Mrs. Leventhal was an auxilary member of both Benedictine and Kingston Hospitals, belonged to Hadassah and was a former member at Wiltwyck Golf Club. Her husband , Reuben Leventhal, died October 6, 1968. Her daughter, Donna Morton, died April 18, 1996. Surviving are her daughter Barbara Dubin and her husband Ira of Scarsdale; one son Steven Leventhal of Bend, Oregon; one son-in-law Duane Morton of Tampa, Florida; one sister Beverly Lake of Florida; four grandchildren Brett Dubin and his wife Tracy, Kim Dubin and her husband Sidney Blacher, Jena and Saara Leventhal; five great grandchildren Shelby, Marlee, Danielle, Jocelyn and Jordyn; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Temple Emanuel, 243 Albany Ave., Kingston. Rabbi Yael Romer will officiate. Interment will be in Montrepose Cemetery. Contributions in Sylvia's memory may be made to "Rabbi Romer's Discretionary Fund", 243 Albany Ave., Kingston, NY 12401.
