Virginia E. Marallo

d. December 22, 2011

Kingston - Virginia Elizabeth Marallo beloved wife of Ralph A. Marallo, cherished mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on Thursday December 22. Born October 14 1924 to Esther Dingman VanDerSluys and William VanDerSluys, she grew up in Gloversville New York and was a descendant from the original passengers onboard the Mayflower. Her mother passed away at an early age and she was raised by her adoptive parents, Mary and Clinton VanAuken. Virginia, affectionately known by most as "Nana", was an avid reader, an excellent cook, and devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her family. Her greatest passion has always been her children and husband Ralph whom she married on April 10, 1944. They celebrated 62 years together prior to his death in 2005. She will be especially remembered for her gentle spirit, concern for children and for those that were close to her, her humor. Virginia volunteered her time to many non-profit organizations such as the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, and others. A parishioner of St. Mary's Church, she was former Supreme Counselor of United Commercial Travelers and member of the Columbiettes Kingston Council #275. She is survived by her seven children, Ralph A. Marallo Jr., Clinton C. Marallo, Thomas G. Marallo and wife Mary, Donald M. Marallo and his companion Doreen, Consiglia A. Serino and husband Anthony, Andrew W. Marallo and Adria Marallo; her 17 grandchildren, Adriana and Renata Marallo, Janel Zumbo, Matthew Marallo, Hilary Hickox, Leah Marallo Hammer, Anthony and Nicholas Serino, Gabrielle Palen, Ashley, Jessica, Andrew and Alexandra Marallo, Karlee Winkler and Robbie, Elena and Juliana Ernst, seven great grandchildren: Brad Guinen, Reese and Rachel Hickok, Evan Norman, Braiden Palen, Mackenzie and Aiden Winkler, one sister, Alyce Picariello, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ralph and her sister, Patricia. Virginia lived with her daughter, Adria for the past 6 years and brought much love, compassion and humor to us all. She so enjoyed her grandchildren and her dog, ChaCha. Adria would like to express her heartfelt appreciation to Virginia's caregivers and specifically to her niece, Jessica Marallo (Virginia's granddaughter) for her nursing and compassion. "Jess, your patience, love and care afforded us the ability to keep her home with us preserving her dignity and providing the level of care and attention she so deserved. Thank you for your assistance, you are an angel as neither she nor I could have done it without you." Much love, Adria Reposing at the Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Columbiettes, Kingston Council #275 will conduct a service on Monday at 7:30 PM. The funeral procession will form on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
