Alvin Werbalowsky, 94, of Atlanta, Georgia, formerly of Boynton Beach, Florida & Kingston, New York, died this past Sunday, January 6, 2019.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of Goldie Meyer Werbalowsky and Benjamin Werbalowsky. During his senior year at Kingston High School, he and best friend, Aaron Gallop, joined other enlisted soldiers walking down Broadway past their high school. He was most proud of flying 26 missions in Europe and being a WWII veteran. Most recently he was awarded the Medal of Honor by the French Foreign Legion for his service in the protection of France. After the war he married his best friend’s sister, Eleanor Rose. They were married for 64 years and owned and operated Al’s Appliance in Kingston for over 50 years until their retirement in 1987.

Alvin was a lifelong member of Ahavath Israel, enjoyed golfing as a member of Wiltwyck Golf Club, and above all enjoyed playing poker both in Kingston and in his retirement at Boynton Beach, FL.

Alvin is survived by two sons, Mark and his wife, Vikki and their son Zachary of Roswell Georgia; Jay and his wife Joyce of Kingston and their sons Sam of Brooklyn and Joshua of Smyrna, GA and his wife, Brandi, and their daughters, Hannah Rose and Eleanor.
Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, and his brother, Morton Werbalowsky.

A Funeral Service will be held at Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 12:00 noon, with Cantor Robert Cohen of Congregation Emanuel, officiating.

Interment with military honors by the Joyce Schirick VFW Post 1386, will follow in Montrepose Cemetery
