Alvira Carpenter

April 8, 1910 — January 22, 2007

Alvira Carpenter of Amsterdam Ave., Kingston died Monday, January 22, 2007 at Benedictine Hospital. She was 96, She was born April 8, 1910 in Somers, a daughter of the late Elisha Hart and Maude Belle Tompkins Purdy. A research librarian in the advertising industry, she worked for Street & Finney Adv. and Darcy-McManus, Beton & Boles in New York City. Her husband, Harry Carpenter and her daughter, Mary Jane Meyer and two brothers, Robert and Lloyd Purdy all died previously. Surviving is her son-in-law, Joseph Meyer of Kingston with whom she resided, her granddaughter Amy Metcalf and her husband Rod of Atlanta, GA and a sister, Connie Lyons of Granite Springs, NY. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Reposing at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kignston on Wednesday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 pm. The funeral procession will form on Thursday at 9:15 am from the funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Duncan Burns in St. John's Episcopal Church at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in Hurley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 421 New Karner Road, Suite 6, Albany, NY 12205-3838
