Gertrude (Trudy) Hames, 93, of Glenford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus. Born in Munich, Germany, she was the daughter of the late May Binion & Rudolph Stephen Toth. Brought up in Brooklyn, NY she was an intellectual, attaining a Master's Degree in Economics and teaching Social Studies at the Junior HS level for 20 years. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed the Opera, gardening, camping across the U.S. and completing the NY Times crossword puzzles. An extremely independent woman, she followed politics intently and had been looking forward to seeing our first female president. She touched many lives in all walks of life. Gertrude is survived by two daughters, Laura Mason and her husband, David R., of Glenford, Katharine Long and her husband Jerry of Kingston, six grandchildren: Jennifer, Kayla, Marlena, Sabrina, Kristofer and Shelby, and five great grandchildren: Brittany, Alexis, Austin, Alexander and Sarah. Gertrude was predeceased by her adoring husband of 52 years, Charles Hames, and two brothers, CPT Stephen Binion & Prof. Rudolph Binion. Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave, is honored to assist the family with private arrangements. To honor her vegetarian ideals and fondness for goats, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Catskill Animal Sanctuary, 316 Old Stage Rd, Saugerties, NY 12477.
