Martin Tirsch, formerly of Red Hook, NY died on Friday, January 5, 2007 at Conway Medical Center, Conway, SC. He was 64.
He was born in Manhattan on October 7, 1942, a son of the late Harold and Bessie Levy Tirsch. Mr. Tirsch was raised in Kingston, NY and graduated Kingston High School. He received a B.S. Degree in Music Education at Ithaca College, class of '64. On August 23, 1964 he married Caryn Schnur.
For 32 years Mr. Tirsch taught music at the Red Hook Schools. He retired in 1996. A longtime Red Hook resident, for many years he served on the Red Hook Zoning Board of Appeals. He also played in the band 'The Faculty'.
He moved to Murell Inlet, S.C. in 1998. He was a member and officer of the Surfside Beach 50 Plus Group and belonged to the Friends of Surfside Library. He played in Pawleys Island Concert Band.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 42 years, are two sons Jeffrey Tirsch and his fiance Lauri McKnight of Rosendale and Louis Tirsch and his wife Linda of Springfield, Mass.; one daughter Alerie Tirsch of Stony Brook, NY; two sisters Laurie Granger and her husband Rev. Robert of Catskill and Bonnie Brunet of Whitesboro, NY; one brother Robert Tirsch of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons Christopher and Jonathan Tirsch; several nieces and nephews.
Reposing at the Simpson - Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave, Kingston on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be conducted on Monday at 12:00 PM. Interment will be in Montrepose Cemetery.
